Loreena Receives Honorary Bachelor Degree from George Brown College

June 23, 2010.

George Brown College recognized one of Canada's most prominent entertainers by bestowing an Honourary Degree on singer/songwriter Loreena McKennitt during its convocation ceremony.

McKennitt received a Bachelor of Applied Business Degree in Financial Services and addressed graduates shortly after 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 23 at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto.

Transcending the folk genre with which she is most readily identified, McKennitt's "eclectic Celtic" music has captivated listeners worldwide. To date, she has sold over 14 million albums with a catalogue that includes seven studio recordings, a double live CD and a DVD/two CD set. She’s won two Junos, Canada’s premiere music award, received a Grammy nomination and has performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

Less well known is the fact that Ms. McKennitt is a highly successful businesswoman of an international enterprise.

In addition to this latest honour, Loreena holds an Honourary Doctor of Letters from Wilfrid Laurier University (2002), Honourary Doctor of Laws from University of Manitoba (2005) and an Honourary Doctor of Laws from Queen's University (2005).
